Beetroot Bhaji

A very simple and healthy recipe . Beetroot is a very good source of iron. Include this vegetable in your regular day to day meals. Have it along with chapatis or as a side dish along with fish, rice and curry.

  • 2 medium sized Beetroots (peeled and grated)
  • Medium Sized Onion (Chopped)
  • 2 tbsp Coconut oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 Dry red chilly
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder (eliminate for kids )
  • 1/4 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1/8 tsp Garam masala
  • 1 Green chilly (chopped, eliminate for kids )
  • 4 tbsp Freshly grated coconut


  • 1 In a skillet, add oil. Add the red chili. Add mustard till they start popping. Add cumin seeds and allow them to sizzle. Fry onion till soft. Add all the masala powders.
  • 2 Add in the grated beetroot , green chili and salt. Cover and cook on medium for 8-10 minutes. (Do not add water, but you can sprinkle a tbsp water .)
  • 3 Add the coconut and stir fry for 2-3 minutes.
  • 4 Serve hot as a side dish or along with chapatis.
