Mutton Bhuna (Bhuna Gosht)

An Indian semi dry spicy mutton(lamb) dish cooked in spices.

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp Oil
  • 2 large Onions
  • 1 Kilograms Mutton(lamb) (Cut into medium sized pieces)
  • 5 medium sized Tomatoes
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp red chili powder
  • 4 tbsp yoghurt (well beaten)
  • 1 1/2 tsp Garam masala
  • 1/4 cup Coriander (chopped)
  • 3 Green chillies (slitted)
  • 3 tbsp Kasuri meethi (dry fenugreek leaves)

Instructions

  • 1 Heat oil in a vessel, fry onions till golden brown.
  • 2 Add the mutton pieces and tomatoes. Fry for about 5 minutes.
  • 3 Add the red chili powder and turmeric powder. Add 2 cups water. Let it come to a boil on HIGH flame and then cover vessel with lid and lower flame to MEDIUM LOW.
  • 4 Cook till mutton is tender (about 30 minutes or more). Add curds. Add the garam masala powder. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  • 5 Add the green chilies and coriander.
  • 6 Add Kasuri meethi(crush between your palms and then add).
  • 7 Cook for another 5-10 minutes till gravy is semi dry.
  • 8 Serve bhuna mutton with rotis, naan or paratha. (see recipe notes below).
