Chicken Chana Dal

Chicken cooked with lentils and Indian spices. This is a kid friendly recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 Kilograms Chicken
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 Lime
  • 1/2 cup Chana dal
  • 4 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 Large Onion (sliced)
  • 3 medium sized Tomatoes (sliced into rings )
  • 2 tbsp Ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 4 tbsp Coriander (chopped)
  • 1 tsp Garam masala

Instructions

  • 1 Clean and cut chicken into medium sized pieces. Apply salt and lime juice to it. Leave aside for at least 15 minutes.
  • 2 Soak Chana dal for at least 2 hours. Drain the water.
  • 3 In a pressure cooker heat oi. Add cumin seeds, allow them to sizzle. Fry onions till golden brown and then add the tomatoes.
  • 4 Add the ginger garlic paste. Fry for 2 minutes.
  • 5 Add the turmeric powder and red chili powder. Mix well.
  • 6 Add the chicken pieces along with the soaked chana dal. Mix well.
  • 7 Add 1 ½ cups water and close pressure cooker lid. Pressure cook on HIGH flame for one whistle. Allow the pressure of the cooker to be released naturally. Open cooker lid once pressure has been release, mix well. Add garam masala and coriander and cook for another 5 minutes.
  • 8 Serve hot with rotis, naan or paratha. (See recipe notes below)
