Coconut Based Goan Prawn Pulao

A quick and simple Goan recipe for prawn pulao with coconut and a mild spice flavor. Kid friendly recipe.

Ingredients

For the Coconut Masala: -
  • 1/2 cup Freshly grated coconut
  • 2 Green chilies (roughly chopped)
  • 1/2 cup Coriander leaves
  • 5 cloves
  • 3 Cardamom
  • 1 inch Cinnamon stick
Other Ingredients: -
  • 4 tbsp Ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1 large Onion (sliced)
  • 1 1/4 cup Basmati Rice
  • 250 grams Prawns/Shrimps
  • 1 tsp Garam masala
  • 2 tsp Salt

Instructions

  • 1 Wash the basmati rice well and keep aside. Grind all the ingredients for ‘coconut masala’ in a mixer grinder using about ¼ cup water to form a fine paste. Keep it aside.
  • 2 In a pressure cooker, add the ghee. Fry the onion till soft and translucent.
  • 3 Add the ground coconut paste and stir fry for about 3 minutes.
  • 4 Add the prawns, salt and garam masala powder and stir fry for another 3 minutes.
  • 5 Add the basmati rice, mix well. Add 2 cups water. Pressure cook on HIGH flame for ONE whistle. Remove cooker from heat and allow the pressure of cooker to be released naturally.
  • 6 Prawn pulao is ready. Using a fork, mix the rice well.
  • 7 Serve Hot! Enjoy!!!
