Falafel

Falafel is a deep-fried ball or patty made from ground chickpeas. Falafel is a traditional Middle Eastern food, commonly served in a pita, which acts as a pocket, or wrapped in a flatbreads. The falafel balls/patty are topped with salads, hummus and drizzled with tahini-based sauces or yoghurt based dips. Falafel balls may also be eaten alone as a snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Kabuli Chana (Chickpeas)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1 tsp Cumin powder
  • 1 Green chili (chopped)
  • 6 Garlic cloves (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup Coriander leaves
  • 1 cup Onion (chopped)
  • Oil (to deep fry or shallow fry)

Instructions

  • 1 Soak the kabuli chana overnight. (Do not boil them).
  • 2 Put all ingredients in a bowl. (Except oil).
  • 3 Put all ingredients in mixer grinder and form a paste. Refrigerate the mixture for at least 30 minutes.
  • 4 Take an ice cream scoop and form balls or patty.
  • 5 Deep fry or shallow fry the falafel patty.
  • 6 Have it alone as a snack.
  • 7 OR Make a sandwich. (See Recipe notes below).
