Fish & Chips with Onion Rings

These fried fish and onion rings are coated in a homemade beer batter and deep fried to perfection served with baked chips and tartar sauce. Popular recipe among kids and grown ups as well.

For Marinating the Fish:-
  • 4 slices Fish (boneless, I used cod fish)
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper powder
  • Oil (as required for deep frying)
For the Batter Mixture:-
  • 1/2 cup All-Purpose Flour (and extra flour for coating fish)
  • 1/2 tsp Paprika
  • 1/2 tsp Dry oregano
  • 1/2 tsp Dry parsley
  • 1 12- ounce Beer bottle
For Onion rings and Chips:-
  • 1 large Onion (Cut into thick rings)
  • 1 large Potato (cut into size of french fries)
  • 1/2 tsp Paprika
  • 1/2 tsp Dry oregano
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
To Serve:-
  • Tartar Sauce (See Recipe Notes below for recipe link)


Prepare the Fish:-
  • 1 Apply salt and pepper to fish. Keep aside for 15 minutes.
  • 2 Mix all dry ingredients under 'For the Batter Mixture' in a bowl.
  • 3 Add the beer.(as much as required to make the batter).
  • 4 Make a thick batter that coats the back of your spoon.
  • 5 Dip fish in dry flour.(in the extra flour).
  • 6 Next, dip fish in beer batter.
  • 7 Deep fry the fish.
  • 8 Deep fry till golden brown. Drain on absorbent paper towel.
Prepare the Onion Rings and Chips:-
  • 9 Dip onions in dry flour and then dip in same beer batter.(as used for frying the fish)
  • 10 Deep fry the onion rings till golden brown. Drain on absorbent paper towel.
  • 11 Preheat oven at 375 deg F. Apply salt and spices to the potato wedges. Drizzle some oil over fries. Bake them 15-20 minutes.
Assemble Fish, Chips & Onion Rings:-
  • 12 Prepare the tartar sauce. (See recipe notes below for recipe link.)
  • 13 Assemble fish, chips and onion rings in a serving basket. Enjoy!!!
