Goan Beef Cutlet Pão

This is a popular fast food that's found at local stalls or joints in Goa and this sandwich is often referred to as cutlet or cutlesh Pão. This is a Goan bread stuffed with marinated and semolina coated fried beef slices served along with ketchup and an optional simple salad.

Ingredients

  • 12 Beef Steak slices
  • 1 tsp Crushed pepper
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp Salt (or as per taste)
  • 1 Lime (juice)
  • 1 Egg (well beaten)
  • Rawa (fine semolina as required)
  • Oil (to fry steak slices)
  • 6 Goan Pao (see recipe notes below for homemade pao )

Instructions

  • 1 Cut and wash beef slices.
  • 2 Put them between plastic sheets and bang them lightly.
  • 3 Marinate them with salt, pepper, chili powder, lime. Keep aside for at least 30 minutes.
  • 4 Dip in beaten egg and coat with rawa on both sides.
  • 5 In a pan , add sufficient oil, fry the beef slices.
  • 6 Fry the steaks till the meat is cooked and you get a nice golden brown color on the top.
  • 7 Drain on paper towel.
  • 8 Prepare a salad with shredded cabbage, little vinegar and salt .(Add chopped tomatoes if desired). Salad is optional.
  • 9 Cut the breads and stuff each bread with 2 steaks, serve with salad (optional) and ketchup. Enjoy!!!
