Goan Pork Curry

This traditional Goan Pork Curry is a rich curry cooked in coconut milk and has mild flavor of spices and tanginess comes from tamarind and kokum. It is kid friendly.

Ingredients

For the Masala Paste: -
  • 1/2 tsp Black Peppercorns
  • 1/2 inch Cinnamon stick
  • 5 cloves
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 Tamarind Ball (size of a small marble)
  • 8 Kashmiri Red dry chilies
  • 1 inch Ginger Piece (roughly chopped)
  • 5 Garlic flakes (roughly chopped)
Other Ingredients: -
  • 500 grams Pork meat
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1 large Onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 Green chilies (chopped)
  • 4 Dry Kokum
  • 1 cup Coconut Milk
  • 2 tbsp Coriander (chopped)

Instructions

  • 1 Grind all ingredients under ‘masala paste using ¼ cup water to form a fine paste. Keep it aside. Wash the pork and apply 1 tsp salt to it.
  • 2 In a vessel, add oil. Fry onions till soft and translucent. Add the masala paste and green chilies and stir fry for 3 minutes.
  • 3 Add the pork meat and fry for about 3-4 minutes.
  • 4 Add 3 cups water and dry kokum, cover vessel and cook for about 25-30 minutes. (till the meat is tender).
  • 5 You will get a semi dry gravy.
  • 6 Add the coconut milk and simmer for 3 minutes.
  • 7 Add the coriander and simmer for another 2 minutes. Serve hot with rice!
