Laccha Paratha

Laccha paratha is an Indian flat bread that is crispy, flaky and layered. It is made with whole wheat flour. It is very easy to prepare and tastes very delicious.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole wheat flour (and will require Additional wheat flour for dusting)
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • Water (as required to knead dough)
  • Ghee (clarified butter, as required)

Instructions

  • 1 Knead the dough with all ingredients using sufficient water. Keep aside for at least 15 minutes.
  • 2 Divide dough into 5 equal portions. Roll out the each dough ball into a 6 inch circle.
  • 3 Apply generous amount of ghee over circle and sprinkle some flour over it.
  • 4 Form pleats as show in the picture starting from one edge till next edge till it forms like a pleated paper fan.
  • 5 Roll the pleated dough in a tight circle. Join the edges.
  • 6 Do this for all the five dough balls.
  • 7 Dip each of them in wheat flour and roll out lightly again. You will see the layers.
  • 8 Heat tawa/ griddle. Place paratha over it. Flip and add ghee all over this partially cooked side.
  • 9 Flip other side and apply ghee as well to this side.
  • 10 Fry till nice and brown on both sides. Using your hands slightly squish paratha so that the layers are visible. Enjoy Laccha paratha with gravy of your choice.
