Wash the Bottle gourd, peel it and cut into 1 inch cubes.
Soak chana dal for at least 2 hours.

In a pressure cooker, add oil. Fry onions till brown in color. Add tomatoes and cook till soft. |

Add turmeric and chili powder along with ginger. Sauté for a minute. |

Add the soaked chana dal and fry for 2 minutes. Add bottle gourd pieces. Mix well. Add 1 cup water and pressure cook on HIGH for one whistle only. Keep aside. |

Once pressure has been released of pressure cooker, transfer the dal in another pan. Add garam masala. Get it to a boil.
Prepare the seasoning:-
In a small pan, add oil, add cumin seeds, allow them to crackel. Add chillies and hing.
Pour seasoning over dal. Mix well. |

Garnish with coriander and serve with rotis or as side dish with rice. (See Recipe Notes below) |
