Mince Croquettes

Beef Croquettes are a very popular snack in Goa. No feasts, weddings , parties are complete without croquettes. This is a recipe for Goan Croquettes using beef mince, a faster method to the other croquette recipe that I already shared on my website earlier.

Ingredients

To Cook the Mince:-
  • 500 grams Beef Mince (ground beef)
  • 1 tbsp Vinegar
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 6 cloves garlic (Finely chopped)
  • 1 tsp Ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp Garam masala powder
  • 2 medium sized Onion (chopped)
  • 3 tbsp Oil
To Make / Shape the Croquettes:-
  • 1 Egg
  • 4 tbsp Coriander (chopped)
  • 1 Green chili (Finely chopped)
  • 4 Slices of bread (grind in mixer to form fresh breadcrumbs)
For Deep frying Croquettes:-
  • 1-2 Eggs
  • Fine semolina/ rawa or breadcrumbs (as required)
  • Oil (to deep fry)

Instructions

  • 1 In a skillet, add the oil. Fry the onions till soft. Add the ginger garlic paste, garlic, mince, salt, vinegar, turmeric powder. Mix well. After 5 minutes, add chili powder and cumin powder. Cook till mince is done. Add the garam masala powder. Mince has to be dry. (See recipe notes below). Let the mixture cool completely.
  • 2 Grind the mixture finely. Place mixture in a bowl.
  • 3 Add one egg, breadcrumbs, green chilies, coriander. Mix well, adjust salt if required.
  • 4 Shape into croquettes. Dip croquettes in beaten egg(mixed with 1 tbsp water). Coat in semolina or bread crumbs.
  • 5 Prepare all the same way till all mixture has been utilized.
  • 6 Deep fry them in hot oil. (See recipe notes below).
  • 7 Deep fry till you get a nice golden brown color. (See recipe notes below).
  • 8 Enjoy! I bet no one can eat just one !!!

Recipe Notes

  1. Make sure the mince is completely dry. If your using a high fat content mince (or if you have oil released by the mince), please make sure to drain all the oil out once the mince has been cooked.
  2. If the mince isn't dried up complete, it will be a sticky and watery mixture once you grind the mince in the mixer and you will not be able to form the croquettes.
  3. I made some with semolina and a few with breadcrumbs.
  4. Deep fried and final pictures show croquettes made with breadcrumbs.
