Mutter Paneer

Mutter Paneer is a popular North Indian recipe. Paneer pieces and green peas are simmered in a spicy onion-tomato gravy. This is probably the most frequently ordered vegetarian dish in Indian restaurants. Now, you can try making it at home and sure this is gonna be a hit!

Ingredients

For the Masala Paste:-
  • Green chilly ( roughly chopped)
  • 1 Onion ( roughly chopped)
  • 2 Tomatoes ( roughly chopped)
  • 1/2 inch Ginger
  • 4 Garlic cloves
  • 10 Cashewnuts
  • 1 tsp Coriander seeds
  • 5 Peppercorns
  • 4 cloves
  • 1/2 inch Cinnamon stick
Other Ingredients:-
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Cuminseeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp Garam masala
  • 1/2 cup Green Peas (I used frozen)
  • 200 gms Paneer (cubed)
  • 2 tbsp Coriander (chopped)
  • 2 tbsp Milk Cream
  • Salt (to taste)

Instructions

  • 1 Ingredients for masala paste.
  • 2 Grind the masala ingredients to a fine paste without using water. Keep it aside
  • 3 In a pan, add cumin, allow them to crackle. Add the masala paste, cook on low flame for 15 mins.
  • 4 Add the turmeric, chilly and garam masala powders. Cook for 2 mins.
  • 5 Add the Green peas, salt and one cup water. Cook peas for 2-3 mins.(See Recipe notes below)
  • 6 Once gravy thickens, add paneer cubes and cream, cook for 2 mins.(See Recipe notes below) Serve with Rotis or parathas. (See Recipe Notes below)

Recipe Notes

  1. If using fresh greens peas, allow them to cook for about 10 mins till done.
  2. Do not overcook the paneer.
