Orange Chicken

A simple dish to accompany fried rice or noodles or can be had as an appetizer. A delicious citrus chicken recipe with flavors reminiscent of the orange chicken from restaurants in the mall.

Ingredients

For the Batter Marinade: -
  • 2 Chicken breasts (cubed)
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tsp Pepper powder
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 4 tbsp Corn flour
  • 2 tbsp All-Purpose Flour
Other Ingredients: -
  • 1 tbsp Soy sauce (low sodium)
  • 4 tbsp White Vinegar
  • Juice of 2 Oranges (about ½ cup)
  • 1/4 cup Water (room temperature)
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp Orange zest
  • 1 tbsp Corn flour
  • Oil (as required)
  • 4 Garlic cloves (chopped)
  • 1 inch Ginger Piece (chopped)
  • 1/2 tsp Red chili flakes

Instructions

  • 1 Mix all ingredients under ‘marinade’.
  • 2 Use 2 tbsp or little more water if required to make a thick batter.
  • 3 Deep fry or shallow fry the chicken. Drain on absorbent paper towels.
  • 4 In a bowl, mix soy sauce, vinegar, Orange juice, water, sugar, orange zest and cornflour. Keep aside.
  • 5 In a skillet, add 2 tbsp oil, fry the ginger, garlic and chili flakes for a minute.
  • 6 Add the orange juice mixture and stir continuously till it forms a thick gravy.
  • 7 Add the fried chicken pieces and cook for another 2 minutes.
  • 8 Serve hot with fried rice or noodles. (See Recipe Notes below).
