Pastry Cream Cones

Remembering my childhood when we used to eat these pastry cream cones available in almost all the local bakeries in Goa. These cones were garnished either with a glazed cherry or sprinkled with bright pink colored sugar.

Ingredients

For the Pastry Cone:-
  • Ready to bake puff pastry sheets ( see recipe notes below)
  • 1 Egg (beat it well with 1 tbsp water)
For the Cream Filling:-
  • 3/4 cup Unsalted Butter
  • 3 cup Confectioners or icing sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla essence
  • 2 tbsp Milk
  • Sugar sprinkles or Glazed cherries (for decoration)

Instructions

Prepare the Pastry Cones:-
  • 1 Roll out the pastry sheet. Cut into 1/2 inch strips. (See notes below for homemade puff pastry recipe link ) .
  • 2 Roll the pastry strip starting from end of the cone mold.
  • 3 In case you need to join another strip , then apply egg to the edge.
  • 4 Continue to wrap with another strip, sealing the ends with egg.
  • 5 Preheat oven at 400 def F (200 deg C). Make 12 cones. Brush with egg.
  • 6 Bake for 15-18 minutes till nice golden brown color.
  • 7 Allow them to cool completely on a wire rack.
  • 8 Remove the cone molds from the pastry cones.
Prepare the Cream Filling:-
  • 9 Beat butter and icing sugar.
  • 10 Add milk and vanilla essence and beat till light and fluffy.
  • 11 Fill cream in a zip lock bag fitted with a nozzle. Fill each cone with the cream.
  • 12 Fill all the cones.
  • 13 Decorate with glazed cherry or colored sprinkle sugar.
  • 14 Serve.
