Prawn Pattice

Prawn Pattice is loved by almost every Goan. It's a popular snack specially after Sunday Church service, you will see people crowding the local tea shops for pattice and other snacks. Also a very popular snack nowadays for litany celebrations. One of my all-time favorite snack.

For the Prawn Filling:-
  • 1 large Onion
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp Garam masala
  • 1/4 cube Tastemaker (chicken/veg/beef Bouillon )
  • 1 Green chili (finely chopped)
  • Salt (as required)
  • 2 tbsp Coriander (finely chopped)
  • 4 tbsp Oil
  • 1 cup Fresh Prawns
For the Pattice:-
  • 1 box Puff pastry sheets (ready or homemade) (I used homemade puff pastry, see recipe notes below for recipe link)
  • 1 Egg (beaten well with 1 tbsp water)

Instructions

Prepare the Prawn Stuffing:-
  • 1 In a pan, add the oil. Fry the onion till soft. Add the turmeric powder, chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala, taste maker. Fry for 30 seconds.
  • 2 Add the prawns. Cook till prawns are done. (do not add water while cooking).
  • 3 Add the green chilies, fry for a minute. Adjust the salt and sprinkle with coriander. Let the stuffing cool completely before you fill them in the pastry.
Prepare the Pattice:-
  • 4 See recipe notes below on how to make your own Puff Pastry from scratch at home.
  • 5 Prepare pastry if making at home. Roll pastry sheet out 1/8 inch thickness. (If you roll too thin, you will not get nice flaky pastry after baking).
  • 6 Line the 12 pattice molds with the pastry. Using the mold cut 12 pastry rounds cutouts to cover top of the pattice.
  • 7 Fill with sufficient prawn filling.
  • 8 Preheat oven at 400 deg F (200 deg C). Cover the pattice with pastry cut outs. Brush top of pastry with egg.
  • 9 Bake for 15-18 minutes till nice golden brown color.
  • 10 Remove pattice from mold after 2-3 minutes. Allow to cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before serving.
  • 11 Serve! Enjoy!!!
