Rava Fried Pomfret Fish

The earlier form of the pomfret's name was pamflet, a word which comes from Portuguese pampo, referring to various fish. Pomfret is simple to cook. It has more meat and few bones. It is rich in protein and unsaturated fatty acids. There are various ways in which you can cook pomfret. This recipe involves simple fish fry marinated previously with some spices.

  • 1 Pomfret fish (Silver pomfret)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp Vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • Rava (fine semolina, as required )
  • Oil (for shallow fry)


  • 1 Clean pomfret fish.
  • 2 Cut fish as shown. Apply salt, turmeric, chili powder, vinegar and salt to it. Keep aside for 15 minutes.
  • 3 Coat fish pieces in rava.
  • 4 Heat a skillet and add oil. Shallow fry the fish pieces till crisp.
  • 5 Serve with salad as an appetizer or Goan Fish curry and rice. (See Recipe Notes below)
