Prawn & Potato Curry

This is a colorful, flavorful coconut based spicy curry that is easy to make. A warming Home style curry.

Ingredients

For the Masala Paste:-
  • 1 medium sized Onion (Chopped)
  • 4 Garlic cloves
  • 1/2 inch Ginger Piece
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Peppercorns
  • 1/2 tbsp Coriander seeds
  • 1/2 cup Fresh grated coconut
  • 4 Kashmiri dry chillies
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp Tamarind
Other Ingredients:-
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 10 Curry leaves (optional)
  • 1 Green chilly (slit )
  • 1 medium sized Onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 medium sized Potatoes (peeled and cubeb)
  • 1 cup medium sized Prawns/shrimps
  • Salt (to taste)

Instructions

  • 1 Grind all the ingredients of the masala and keep the paste aside.
  • 2 In a pan, add oil. Add mustard seeds, allow them to splutter. Add curry leaves and green chili. Fry for a minute.
  • 3 Fry onion till soft. Add the masala paste. Stir fry for 2-3 mins. Add Salt.
  • 4 Toss in the potatoes. Cook for 3 mins. Add 1 cup water. Cover pan with lid and cook till potatoes are done.(See Recipe Notes)
  • 5 Finally add the prawns.
  • 6 Cook for next 3 mins till done and the curry slightly thickens. (See Recipe Notes)
  • 7 Serve with steamed rice.

Recipe Notes

  1. You can add boiled potatoes.
  2. Do not cook prawns for more than 3 mins as prawns cook fast and they tend to taste rubbery if over cooked.
