Veggie Chapatis

This recipe shows how to make chapatis specially for the fussy and picky eaters (Veggie haters). This recipe uses spinach and beetroot puree to give that attractive red and green color to your chapatis which is a very healthy option for you and your kids. Try them out !

Ingredients

  • 2 cup Wheat flour
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1- 1 1/2 cup Spinach puree (or as required to make a dough)
  • 1- 1 1/2 cup Beetroot puree (or as required to make a dough)
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • Ghee (as required to fry the chapatis)

Instructions

  • 1 In a bowl , add 1 cup flour and add spinach puree along with 1/4 tsp salt and 1 tbsp oil. Knead a green chapati consistency dough. Keep aside. In another bowl, add 1 cup flour and add beetroot puree along with 1/4 tsp salt and 1 tbsp oil. Knead a red chapati consistency dough. Keep aside. Keep both dough aside for at least 15 minutes. (See recipe notes below).
  • 2 Roll both the dough separately into thick rectangles.
  • 3 Place red dough rectangle over the green dough rectangle and press lightly.
  • 4 Roll it tightly as show in the pic, the same way you would roll a swiss roll.
  • 5 Cut about 1 and 1/2 inch thick slices from the rolled dough.
  • 6 Press them lightly. (You will see the lovely red and green swirls here ).
  • 7 Roll the chapatis.
  • 8 Heat the tawa. Place a chapati on tawa.
  • 9 Once you see some bubbles, flip it on the other side. Repeat this another time, then apply ghee over the chapati, flip the chapati. Apply ghee on the other side as well, flip chapati for few seconds. Remove chapati from tawa.
  • 10 Cook all chapatis in same manner.

Recipe Notes

  • To make spinach puree, just add spinach and some water in mixer grinder to make a puree.
  • To make beetroot puree, chop beetroot into pieces, add some water to mixer grinder until a smooth puree is formed.
  • You can add a third layer of carrot puree.
