Hi Xanti,
I managed to make the cafreal, substituting Rum with water and vinegar. And used the cafreal to make chicken cafreal without potatoes.
The dish turned out to be the best dish. All at home just went for more and more.
Thank you very much….:-)
Hi Augusto

Hi Xanti,
Tried out this recipe yesterday..fantastic, thanks a ton..
I had a query though, The quantity for the ingredients that you have mentioned above is for 1KG chicken or more? Was not too sure, so just used approximate measures of the masala and stored the rest.
This recipe like a few others of yours that i have tried so far, is a definite keeper..thanks again
Thank you very much sure gonna try this sand am.positive it will be super. God bless you Roshni
Hi Roshini …sure, do try this out…and do drop your feedback thanks π
Hi Xanti, i’m from Goa, living in UK abd follow most of your recipes…they are really authentic..
I have a request..is it possible to be a bit more specific with your quantities? Especially with cup sizes..its not really clear as to how much or how big is a cup or glass etc. Thanks a lot.
Hello Anuya
Cup refers to the standard CUP measures that you get. You get a set of standard measuring cups (1/4, 1/3 , 1/2 and 1 cup as a set) and same for SPOON measures (1 tsp, 1 tbsp , 1/4 tsp etc as a set).
So , when a recipe call for cup or spoon measurements , it refers to the standard cup or spoon measures π

Thank you Francisco for trying the recipe and sharing your feedback with me π
Thanks Xanti!
Tried this at home and was pleasantly surprised at how good and authentic the taste was. All this time I’ve been regularly buying the masala from Goa and carting it all the way to Delhi. Also am guilty of using a packet twice to make it last! π Now thanks to you I needn’t do that. My family loves Cafreal and we all thank you very much!
Love many of your recipes and have plans to try them out.
Thanks Nita for sharing your lovely feedback with me… glad that you loved the cafreal preparation πππ»Any queries on any Goan food , dp drop me a messge , Iβll be glad to help you out ππ»Cheers !

Dear Xanti,
Im looking for making a medium thickness gravy using cafreal masala but with soya chunks and potatoes.. could you advise if I can add coconut milk to make more gravy?
Hi Berlin
You can add
I have not tried it though
How do we store the masala if we have to take it out of town ? If i have prepared it today .. can it stay out for atleast 2 days
You can keep it out for 2 days if you grind only in rum . Store masala in a glass jar
Which rum did you use for the masala
I usually use little vinegar and water (as I mentioned in recipe or u can use rum )
Use any rum available to you .
Thank you soo much ..
Hi Xanti! This is my first attempt at making this masala. I use the readymade ones usually. I did exactly as u said above. But grind the masala in Rum. Ky masala taste a little bitter.! Is it normal to get that lil bitter taste in the final product?
Lovely and perfect recipe, dear Xanti.
Best cafreal I’ve ever tasted. Keep sharing the good work u do dear. May god bless u abundantly
Thanks Melba for sharing your feedback with me πhappy that you enjoyed the cafreal

Thanks a lot for sharing your feedback πglad you liked the cafreal
This is a fantastic recipe. I followed it exactly (except using apple cider vinegar instead of rum). I will never buy the packaged cafreal masala again.
Thanks tanisha .
Homemade is always the best … no preservatives too !
Hi Xanti,
Can the Cafreal masala be made ahead of time and kept in the refrigerator? If so, for how long?
Hi penny
Preferably done to marinate chicken the same day .
Hi xauti,
Lovely recipes.. thank you for sharing them… everytime I try something from your recipe it always turns out great.. I just have a small request can you post also the gravy recipe with goes with cafreal.
Hi Milva
Itβs the same cafreal
You can keep it semi dry or add more masala to get a little gravy
Can you share a pic of the cup size mentioned?
1 cup =250 ml … thatβs the cup measure I use.
Hey Xanti,
Would like to thank you for this wonderful cafreal masala recipe, have tried it many times and it is a hit always.
Thanks shubh for you feedback π
Thanks shub for your lovely feedback π
Any idea how much malasa I would get with these ingredients. Approximately weight of masala
Hi Vanessa
I have approximately made it for that quantity of meat … have not weighed it … prepare a batch , weigh and check
Hi xanti
Does grinding in rum give a better flavour or water and vinegar thanks
Rum is the authentic way… depends on each ones taste
Absolutely loved it. Thank you for the recipe.
Thanks π
Hi Xanti
Thanks for the recipe. How much vinegar and water should one use to make the paste. I kept adding a bit but wasn’t sure how much was ideal. I would think it would need to taste a bit tangy and vinegar helps level the spiciness of the cafreal. It did turn out awesome in the end .
Regards
Kiran
Thanks for trying and for sharing your feedback
