Beat butter and sugar together till light and fluffy. Add the vanilla essence . |
|

Add in the flour, baking powder and salt. |

4 |
Combine well till a smooth dough is formed. Cover the dough and leave it aside for for at-least 30 minutes to 1 hour. |

After 30 minutes to 1 hour, gently knead the dough. |

Preheat oven at 300 deg f (150 deg c). Make round balls (use 1 tbsp each , will give you about 27-28 pieces ) and place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. |

Top each snowball with a cherry / tutti frutti (optional). |

Bake them exactly for 10 minutes. Remove from oven. Let the snowballs cool on the tray for few minutes until you are able to remove them off the tray. Cool completely on a cooling rack. |

Hi xanti
I just baked these and they taste amazing however they did not turn out round. They flattened out in the oven. What did I do wrong?
Hi Connie
Hmmmm…. Did you keep the dough for atleast 30 mins to an hour before forming the round balls?
I did not leave it to stand for the stipulated time and hence they flattened a little. Tastewise it’s awesome.
Hi Brenda
Hmmm … thanks for trying it out … yes , you need to stick to a recipe dear 😊
Your snow ball receipe was a hit so simple and easy .
Thanks Winnie, glad you liked it.
Hi Xanti, I tried this recipe today. It tasted great and looked beautiful. I didn’t top it with anything. Kept it plain white as I had a winter party theme and these cookies did look like snowballs (I had my doubts initially).
Thank you once again for a lovely recipe. Veena
Hi Xanti
What should be the oven temperature while baking
Hi carneiro
its mentioned in step 6
Hi Xanti
Love your recipes & trying to make Christmas sweets for the first time ever (lost my mum’s recipe book …sigh)
Do need to know whether powdered sugar is icing/confectioner’s sugar?
Many thanks
Hi Audrey
Powdered sugar and confectioners sugar are different … but you can use them as one ingredient.
Hi Xanti
These are also called nankatai?
Thanks
Hi Lara
Nankhatai have cracked tops … Nankhatai recipe is on my website .
Xanti will it remain till Christmas if I prepare them now?
Hi grace
Prepare them about 4 -5 days before Christmas…
On my list of Kuswar. In the U.K. Powdered sugar is Icing Sugar. Xanti not just a great expert her menu guidance is spot on.
Hmmm… I believe that icing sugar is made with a very lil amount of cornstarch as well . For 1 cup granulated sugar it’s about 1- 1 1/4 tbsp cornstarch .
Do the smowballs come out crunchy or soft. Mine turned out soft. But the taste is awesome
Hi Victoria
They come out soft and they melt in your mouth 😊
This is a great recipe thanks! Only prob I faced was that my dough turned out a bit sticky so I added another 150gms if flour and they were perfect! Your ten mins in the oven is spot on!
Thanks Sche for your feedback 🙂 Glad it turned out proper at the end 🙂
Mine are in the oven right now… Fingers crossed 😊
Hello Debbie
How did they turn out ???
Hi Xanti,
Just tried the snowball recipe. They came out very tasty but at the bottom got brown. Preheated the oven 10mins at 150degree c. n baked for 10mins. what went wrong?
Hi Joyce,
Did you use parchment / baking paper on the baking trays ? Hmm, its ok if they are a lil brown at bottom but the tops have to be nice and white 🙂
You are the best, sweetest, most talented person, who is always sharing and helping out everyone.
I am in awe, as I’m useless at baking. Just want to say thank you for being so kind.
Thank you Glenys for your love and appreciation 🙂 Thanks for your lovely kind words 🙂 Do give a try at baking …its not so difficult 🙂
Hi Xanti,
What is all purpose flour? plain or self- raising? Thanks
Hi Nancy
Its regular maida flour .
Self raising has baking powder in it
Hi Xanti,
This is a awesome recipe, I will give it a try. I just wanted to check, can I use butter instead of Ghee?
Hi Tricia
I’m not sure of butter as butter contains some water content .
Thank you Xanti!!
I tried this recipe today and used ghee. I really liked the taste of it, but it’s pretty delicate and not very firm. So does this mean that it is going to crumble, is there a way to firm it?
Thank you so much for your help.
Hi Tricia
Probably the ghee was a little too more ?
Of the dough is too greasy and wet if you feel , then add more flour to it .
Thank you Xanti!!! It was actually a hit… By the time it was room temperature, it stayed firm. Thank you so much once again!!!
Hi Tricia
Glad to hear from you , happy to hear that 😊
This is a great recipe. I tried it last Christmas and snowballs came out exquisite. They just melt in your mouth. Looking forward to making them this year as well.
Thanks preeti for trying the recipe and glad that you liked it 😊thanks again for your lovely feedback
Hi Xanti,
Prepared these for the first time today. I am getting a strong ghee flavor though the taste is quite good. I used the ghee quantity u mentioned. Any idea what may have gone wrong?
Hi melita
What ghee did you use ?
If you have used puree ghee then it will give you that smell .
Hi Xanti,
Yes it says pure ghee on the tin. However I feel there are 2 places I have gone wrong:
1. I may not have beat the ghee enough. I am in the UK and due to the cold weather the ghee is quite solid
2. I bake in an oven with fan so I reduced the temp even further and the cookies may not have baked completely 😊
Instead of Ghee can I use unsalted butter?
Hi Xanti thanks for the share. Just a query ghee here is dalda ghee right ,not pure ghee..
Super Easy Recipe Xanti and so tasty too, tried this out yesterday!!! You 10 mins was bang on!!! Thank you so much!
Thanks Joanna for your feedback

Hi Xanti,
The most amazing, melt in the mouth thing… Wow and thanks for the recipe 🙂 I did them twice this Christmas and probably will continue baking them throughout the year as they are everyones favourite.
Thanks for sharing your feedback

Thanks 😊
Hi Xanti,
Just wanted to let you know that I tried the snowball recipe last Christmas and rocked. They are like melting moments 😄. I’m gonna make them again this time. Thank you for sharing your love through food ❤.
I’ve been making these for 3 years now (I think). Followed the recipe to the T. Perfect every time. I cannot stress enough – Xanti puts her recipes out there & they are “perfection personified”. I have 40 years of home cooking experience, I have a husband who loves eating & a very, very large extended family. Xanti’s webpage is my go-to for anything new I want to try out & I know it will turn out excellent. And if it doesn’t, I go back & read the instructions & sure enough I have missed a step. So Thank you Xanti.
I made a batch of Snowballs. Followed your recipe to the last detail. They turned out really well. 😋
Looks very tempting!
Will definitely make them for Christmas.
Thank u Xanti.
Thanks Brenda
Can I use a cookie cutter for this? I only have pure ghee.
Mildred not sure why you would need a cookie cutter for this.
Hi Xanti. Wud love to try these. Can u please tell me the measurements with cake baking cups as I only have those. Thanks.
Hi Nutan its best to use grams rather than cups as you would not get exact cup measure but you can use an online converter for grams to cup if you choose.
Hi Xanti your snowball receipe was a hit it looked so cute and tasty too.Simple and easy .Thank you so so much
HI Winnie, thanks for your feedback…Glad you enjoyed them.
