They are crumbly, soft, smooth baked eggless cookies, spiced with cardamom that can be easily prepared at home. Nankhatai are also a famous Goan Christmas sweet distributed as goodies.

  • 100 grams Ghee (clarified butter)
  • 100 grams White sugar (Powdered)
  • 100 grams All-Purpose Flour
  • 25 grams Rawa (Fine semolina)
  • 25 grams Besan (Gram flour)
  • 1/2 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 tsp cardamom powder
  • Pistachios (crushed, for garnishing)


  • 1 Mix the flour, rawa , besan, baking powder and cardamom powder.
  • 2 Beat ghee and sugar till fluffy.
  • 3 Add the flour mixture, do not over beat it. Knead into a dough and leave it covered aside for 2 hours.
  • 4 Preheat oven at 180 deg C( 356 deg F) Form into balls and flatten them slightly like a biscuit and place them on baking sheet. Make cross design using knife as seen in pictures.
  • 5 Garnish with crushed pistachios.
  • 6 Bake them for 20 minutes. Cool completely on wire rack. Store in an airtight container.
